Geoff Bates
Dr Geoff Bates is a Lecturer in Public Health Policy at the Institute for Policy Research, University of Bath (UK). Geoff's research focuses on how to improve public health and reduce inequalities through tackling the wider determinants of health, such as the social, political and economic factors that shape the conditions we live in. He is interested in the effective use of different types of evidence to influence preventative policymaking, and in how to collaborate effectively across sectors and disciplines for impact in complex policy areas. Geoff currently works on projects seeking to embed health evidence into areas of upstream decision-making that shape urban environments, and supporting government organisations to understand and tackle the negative impacts of businesses on health.
